BANGKOK, Dec 18 (TNA) – A strong determination by newly-appointed
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to narrow national divisiveness and
work for a better living for all Thai people will gradually improve the
political situation in the country, according to former prime minister
Chuan Leekpai. He said although the new premier's intention
would not cause a major change, it would at least boost proper
understanding among conflicting people.
Mr. Chuan, who is the Democrat Party's advisory chairman, said he
believed people would eventually be aware of a real cause of the
ongoing political confrontation.
He said the new government must pool cooperation from all parties in resolving the current economic woes. On
news that a number of red-clad people, who support the previous
government, would besiege Parliament when the new government delivers
its policy statement, he said he was not concerned about the matter.
Should the Parliament be besieged, he believed, police would be able
to create understanding and reduce conflicts among protestors.
In particular, if the police told them that the new premier would be
able to solve the country's problems, he believed, the problems would
end. (TNA)
