30.09.09 Russian arrested by Tourist Police with fake credit cards.
On Monday Evening at the Pattaya Tourist Police Station a press
conference was held to announce the arrest of a Russian National
accused of using a fake credit card to obtain cash at a foreign
exchange booth in Naklua. Mr. Ivan Azhimov aged 21, who confirmed the
credit cards were produced by his Russian friend, is believed to have
presented a Unibank Visa Card to the teller at a Siam Commercial Bank
Exchange Counter located in front of Soi 29/1 on the Naklua Road. He
had asked to purchase 30,000 Baht’s worth of currency; however the card
appeared to be invalid. The Tourist Police were called and detained the
man pending a search which uncovered a further two Credit Cards issued
by Bank Avangard in the name of the suspect. Further investigations
into Mr. Azhimov revealed he had been previously arrested in Pattaya
relating to the alleged use of counterfeit credit cards. He was taken
to Pattaya Police Station where he was charged with credit card fraud.
