PATTAYA, April 10 (TNA) – Thailand’s red-shirted anti-government United
Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protesters reached the
five-star Royal Cliff Beach Resort Hotel, venue of the summits of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its Asia-Pacific
dialogue partners in an attempt the disrupt the summit. The
three-day meeting of 10 ASEAN leaders and their counterparts from
China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand is opening

government came to power illegitimately and therefore has no authority
to host the summit. The UDD had pushed through five ranks of
police and military cordons on the way to the hotel and passed through

demonstrators demanded the resignations of three privy councillors
–Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda, Gen. Surayud Chulanont and Charnchai
Likhitjittha, along with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. They also
demand a dissolution of the lower House of Parliament. Deputy
Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said the government will use all means
to make way for the entry of leaders who would attend the summit. The
Thai government’s top security official, Mr. Suthep said the protesters
have reached the summit’s restricted area and the authorities will ask
them to leave, hoping to received cooperation from the protesters.
