The three-day meeting of 10 ASEAN leaders and their counterparts from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand is opening in Pattaya today.

The noisy Red Shirt protesters claim that the government came to power illegitimately and therefore has no authority to host the summit.

The UDD had pushed through five ranks of police and military cordons on the way to the hotel and passed through unarmed security forces to reach the hotel entrance.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said the government will use all means to make way for the entry of leaders who would attend the summit.

The Thai government’s top security official, Mr. Suthep said the protesters have reached the summit’s restricted area and the authorities will ask them to leave, hoping to received cooperation from the protesters. (TNA)
