Mar 12, 2008 - well you sure don't block with the blade. Its usually the side or back of the sword used for deflection and blocking.
Algrensan Says:
Mar 12, 2008 - I think his point was they don't use the blade to block which is true.
KensaiZen Says:
May 9, 2008 - russia? lol that crack must be damn strong lol
KensaiZen Says:
May 17, 2008 - thai sword fighting you do block using the blade. thai sabers arent as thick or well forged as japanese swords so the side could not be used to block. certain sword styles reflect the weapon they use. you cant compare thai sword fighting to japanese... waaaaay different
mjufpn Says:
May 24, 2008 - Martial arts come from where fighting man come from.
7Matahari7 Says:
Jun 5, 2008 - That is the basic origin, if people knew history they would not negative you. Bodhidharma was a black Indian Dravidian, his art developed from Egyptian and Sudani styles. Look up Silambam for any doubters and research the history.
7Matahari7 Says:
Jun 5, 2008 - You are not a swordfighter are you? The side is used when possible, or with Chinese jian we avoid blocking altogether as much as possible.
CBoavida Says:
Jun 9, 2008 - The little I Know about swordfighting I learn from a japanese sistem, and I was never taught to block with the side of the blade, plus, there is the risk of breaking the blade and is not very practical, at least not with a two hand grip. But hey, every system is diferent. What system of swordfighting do you practice?
7Matahari7 Says:
Jun 9, 2008 - I did Iaido forms shortly,so don't really know how they'd would block in most Japanese arts. I doubt folded steel will break. I play Chinese,Silat,Kali and western. Filipino Kali will sometimes use a blade. Most styles I know either redirect, parry, touch the arm instead of the blade, or use the lower part of the blade for a block if we must. We want to preserve the cutting edge. Yes there are many styles and all must work or they wouldn't have been used in wars and still trained in today.
CBoavida Says:
Jun 9, 2008 - I´m curious, your nick suggests you´re a woman.Are you? Were are you from?
7Matahari7 Says:
Jun 9, 2008 - Nope, that's the name of my music group, it means Sun in Bahasa Indonesia language.
gregoriodemoncho Says:
Jul 15, 2008 - Really? I always thaught Matahari ment "Eye of the Sun". from "Mata", eye and "Hari" sun.
7Matahari7 Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - Close, Mata = Eye and Hari = Day, so it would be eye of the day in the old way. But in Indonesian language Matahari as one word means Sun. The roots are Sanskrit.

Oct 9, 2007 - Pancrase is not the same as Pankration. Pancrase is a Japanese wrestling organization. Pankration is an ancient greek martial art recently revived. In the old times the only things you couldn't use were biting and eye gouging. Now there are more rules but it's still bareknuckle fighting.
